Azzura Beach Club @ Siloso Beach Walk, Sentosa

Azzura

We were curious about the brand new club and decided to take a peek. The manager saw us and kindly showed us around.

The indoor club on the second floor, “The Harem” was incomplete due to delayed shipment of furnishings, but it already appeared elaborate and posh.

After the tour, we were recommended to try the signature cocktail, dragon mojito (bacardi superior rum, grand marnier, dragonfruit, fresh lime, mint leaves, sugar). A very potent drink which got me covered in a rash shortly after. K ordered a heineken. As we took a table far out on the beach the short walk was rather awkward as sand kept seeping into my sandals.

A week later (Oct 3) we popped by again for dinner. The mushroom pizza and tom yum seafood (served with rice) were alright. Both iced coffee were spiked with a little alcohol, just enough for a slight kick.

Service was friendly and efficient. It’s a pleasant evening especially when there’s a breeze and the beach was peaceful and romantic with lots of candles.

Loy Kee Best Chicken Rice @ Balestier Road (黎记海南鸡饭)

So far so good

K and I had planned to buy some tau sar piah but alas, the store was closed when we got there. Oh never mind, we popped over to Loy Kee for chicken rice.

When the food arrived, my first impression was that serving size of chicken had shrunk. Guess it’s no longer a surprise since a lot of places have been reducing their food portions too.

The good thing was everything still tasted the same. The tender and juicy poached chicken (白斩鸡) doused in fragrant sesame oil never failed to whet my appetite. The rice was fluffy and flavorful, being infused with chicken stock, and the stir-fried chye sim was delectably savory with lotsa oyster sauce.

The chili sauce however, still lacked the oomph factor. No doubt it’s garlicky enough but I would’ve liked my chili sauce to be really tangy too. Maybe I’d try to ask for extra calamansi next time???

Our meal was satisfactory but my most memorable experience happened a few years back when Mom ordered an extra drumstick for me. The meat was so juicy and succulent, and coupled with the fragrant and sweet sauce, it’s the best chicken rice moment I’ve ever had (outside the home).

Note: Prices are nett.
