The Broers Café @ Petain Road, Residences @ Somme – CLOSED

Yo… brother!

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, the cafe is interestingly named “Broers”, which means “Brothers” in Dutch. The laid-back and warm vibe gives one the feeling of relaxing at home with a good cuppa.

We arrived at the cafe amid gloomy weather, expecting some simple yet comforting nosh to boost our mood on a lazy Saturday.

Our usual order of iced (14oz – $4.50) and hot latte (8oz – $4) was prepared with TLC using a Vibiemme espresso machine. A bit thin but the beverages were enjoyable nonetheless being smooth and fragrant. (Coffee beans are sourced from Highlander Coffee).

The sandwiches were delectable and a perfect size too. Served with a side of potato salad, we found the creamy-peppery homemade dressing particularly appetizing.

The roast beef sandwich ($7.50) came with sourdough bread which was crispy yet fluffy, but the ciabatta of the smoked salmon sandwich ($8.50) was a tad tough and abrasive. Our mouths were sore but we liked the smoked salmon, which surprisingly wasn’t overly salty.

Service was amiable, and the staff certainly brought on some sunshine this cold rainy day. Though water was self-serve, a guy came by with a pitcher to fill my cup as he cleared away our plates. Just a small gesture but it left an incredibly huge impression!

Note: Prices are nett and we paid cash.

Our first stop along the coffee trail.

The participating indie cafes are The Broers Cafe, Forty Hands, Jewel Coffee, Jimmy Monkey Cafe & Bar, Loysel’s Toy, Oriole Cafe & Bar, Oriole Espresso & Brew Bar, Smitten Coffee and Tea Bar, and SOHO Coffee.
