Udders Ice Cream @ West Mall

Skip the no-love waffle!

The flavors are divided into three different range – classic, premium and connoisseur, and they come in single or double scoops in cups or cones. Pints are available for take-aways.

When we arrived there wasn’t any empty table so I decided to take a look at the flavors first while K waited for one.

As I drew near the last display counter, K appeared alongside and we were contemplating the green tea-rrific. Luckily we sampled, since it lacked the kick we preferred. We sampled earl grey next and K liked it though I found the taste overwhelming.

Finally settled on mao shan wang durian and earl grey (connoisseur + classic $6.90) on a waffle ($2.90).

The ice cream were rich-tasting and creamy, but we had wasted money and calories on the waffle. Contrary to being freshly baked, it’s stiff, dense and without the slightest warmth. U.d.d.e.r.l.y. disappointed!

I didn’t quite like the earl grey lingering in my mouth and started craving the new peanut butter crunch (classic $3.20) and bought a scoop to share. The liberal amount of roasted peanuts with brittle bits were extremely moreish.

We enjoyed the ice cream immensely. Too bad about the awful waffle. The staff were patient enough but the tables were disgusting and we had to clear one ourselves.

Ambush @ Jurong Point

Absent-minded chef?

K and I finally stepped into Ambush for dinner after passing it countless times. The restaurant was full when we arrived and the hour hand hadn’t even hit seven yet although it’s a Friday. Thankfully, we were the first in line and the wait was short.

With the tables so close to each other, I had just enough space to slide my butt between them to my seat. K was wise not to try! The undeniable feeling of being ambushed then slowly crept up and I decided to quickly eat and leave.

My pan-seared hake loin with burnt butter sauce ($15.80) was served with purple coleslaw and sautéed potato. The piece of flaky fish was juicy but was downright bland since there wasn’t a trace of sauce. The portion of coleslaw was minuscule while the potato was nicely flavored with shallots.

K’s weihenstephan fish & chips ($14.50) tasted better. The beer battered fish was enjoyable with a thin crispy batter, which was served with well-seasoned cajun fries and mayonnaise.

Service was polite and efficient. Though our meal wasn’t impressive, I wouldn’t totally avoid returning but only when it’s empty! Maybe then the chef wouldn’t forget my sauce and the restaurant wouldn’t feel so claustrophobic.
